Carnival of the Animals
A musical menagerie for the whole family
Hear lions roaring, kangaroos jumping, roosters crowing, fish swimming, birds flying, swans gliding, donkeys braying, cuckoos calling and elephants lumbering this summer on the Mornington Peninsula.
Camille Saint-Saëns’ enchanting Carnival of the Animals: Zoological Fantasy for Two Pianos and Chamber Ensemble has introduced many thousands of young people around the world to the magic of classical music and the instruments of the orchestra.
Now it comes to the Festival for a very special, family-friendly performance of the original chamber orchestra version. Narrator Christopher Lawrence (ABC Classic FM) will introduce each of the instruments in the specially-formed chamber ensemble, including violin, cello, double bass, flute, clarinet, xylophone and piano.
Best of all, everyone’s invited to have a closer look at the instruments at the end of the performance.
