Unforgettably atmospheric concerts

We open our sixth festival with the ever-popular Cantatas by Candlelight, this year featuring the sublime voices of tenor Paul Bentley (UK/Australia) and bass-baritone Nicholas Dinopoulos.

The all-Bach program includes three complete cantatas: Ich armer Mensch, ich Sündenknecht (I, wretched man, a servant to sin) BWV55, Der Friede sei mit dir (Peace be unto you) BWV158 and Ich lasse dich nicht, du segnest mich denn! (I will not let you go, unless you bless me) BWV157.

Widely considered to be the pinnacle of JS Bach’s sacred works, this glorious music is brought to life by an ensemble of leading Australian and international musicians performing on authentic instruments of the 18th century. The 2013 Festival Ensemble features violinists Alice Evans and Catherine Martin (UK), historical flautist Georgia Browne (UK/Australia), historical oboist Kirsten Barry, cellist Howard Penny (UK/Australia), Laura Vaughan (violone) and organist Donald Nicolson (NZ/Australia).
